What I loved the most about those biscuits is that they reminded me of my grandmother’s. Not exactly the same taste, or filling, but the texture. Anyway, even if they are not exactly the same, I am sure she’d be proud of me, at least just for trying to bake them 😛

Ingredients for 20 biscuits:

  • 250 g of flour
  • 150 g of soft butter
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pack of vanilla sugar
  • 1 pack of baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 150 g of dark chocolate (or milk)

Times:

  • Preparation: 30 mins
  • Cooking: 8 mins
  • Rest: 30 mins

1- In a large bowl, beat the butter with the sugars, and the vanilla extract until creamy. Add the egg and beat again.

2- Mix the baking powder and the salt with the flour and add them to the mixture with a spoon. Form a ball with the dough, place it in cling film and leave it in the fridge for 30 minutes (I have to confess I sometimes skip that part…).

3- Preheat the oven at 180 Celcius degrees. Separate the chocolate squares. Take out the dough from the fridge, and divide it into 20 little balls. Place one in the palm of your hand and flatten it a little bit. Then place one square of chocolate in the centre and fold the edges of the dough over to reshape it in a ball that you will flatten just a little bit. Now that you have done one… only 19 left to do! 😛

4- Place them on a baking trays covered with baking paper, and in the oven for 6 to 8 minutes. Check them after 5 minutes to make sure they don’t burn. They should be slightly golden at the end. Remove from the oven and let cool completely before eating to they can be crunchy.
